Taejongdae: Busan Attractions, Away from the Busan city

A usual question by many travellers, how many days do I need to travel in Busan? The answer: Busan is definitely worth your visit for more than just a day trip. As Busan is a coastal city, other than visiting the usual crowded touristy Busan attractions such as Gamcheon culture village. Another way to travel Busan in a different perspective, you can plan to explore Busan Attractions that are near the coastal such as Taejongdae enabling you to experience the uniqueness of Busan more, in more incredible ways imaginable.

Some ideas of the Busan attractions that are near coastal are Taejongdae, Haedong yonggungsa temple 해동 용궁사 and Oryukdo skywalk.

Previously, I embarked on a 12 day Korea trip. To make my Korea trip worthwhile, I travelled from Jeju island to Busan and lastly Seoul. Taejongdae is surrounded by the ocean, they are popular for their coastal cliffs by the ocean. Tucked away from the buzzing Busan city, with fresher mountain air, lesser crowd and minimal tall buildings are seen. Taejongdae is perfect for a half-day light hiking trip to loosen one’s up.

Taejongdae is reachable by their public bus. From Busan station, exit 7 you can take bus 66, 88 or 101 & alight at the last stop (Taejongdae Chagoji).

In Korea, the public bus has a signboard showing the commuters the name of each stop to avoid anyone from missing any stops. How considerate!

The easiest way to explore around Taejongdae is by Danubi train.  There is a Danubi Train course and at each station, you may alight at any point in time. Do expect some waiting time as the queue can be long. Otherwise, you may also travel on foot from attractions to attractions.

The Danbui Train course: Platform→ Taejongsa Temple → Yeongdo Lighthouse → Observatory → Gumyeongsa Temple → Taewon Jagal Madang → Platform

We hopped on the Danbui train and off we go for our first stop, Taejongdae observatory deck.

In front of the Taejongdae observatory, there is a popular statue, the Mother & children. As Taejongdae has a high rate of suicide so this statue serves as a purpose to remind them about the mother’s love and stop them in time for suicide.

Yeongdo Lighthouse

Yeongdo Lighthouse

Yeongdo lighthouse is one of the stations reachable by Danubi station or within walkable distance from the observatory deck to Yeongdo lighthouse. Follow along the fleet of stairs, you will reach Yeongdo lighthouse in no time.

While breathing deeply the fresh air, don’t forget the magnificent views of the rocky cliff, totally like a piece of art.

At Yeongdo lighthouse, you can capture the picturesque natural coastal cliff, listen to the soothing waves and embrace yourself with the gusty wind. The tranquil environment creating a peace of mind there.

According to this map at Taejongdae, you could take a light hike to Yeongdo lighthouse → Light Beyond Limitation →  Sinseon rock

The highlight of Taejongdae is the Sinseon rock, a flat and broad rock formation. Apart from its popular myth story, it’s also the closest spot that you can stand ultra-close to the sea. It’s definitely a fun experience getting on the Sinseon rock.

As we are making our way to Sinseon rock, it started to drizzle and the rocks became slippery. With little railings to be held on, we had to walk carefully on the slippery rocks feeling excited yet scared at the same time.

Taejongdae

After all the long coastal walking trails along the cliff, rewarding yourself with this breathtaking view.  If you are up to something close to nature where you can have a clean view of coastlines, highly recommend you to visit Taejongdae.
