Taipei is usually known for its shopping and rarely known for sightseeing. Thousand Island Lake Taiwan 石碇千島湖 is a hidden gem in Taipei because it is hardly unknown to the tourist and even to some of the locals. It is also an instagrammable place to visit in Taipei.
Thousand Island Lake Taiwan is located at Shiding District, New Taipei City. The magnificent view of the Thousand Island lake and picturesque green tea planation will take your breath away!
Despite the bad weather, we still decide to go ahead with our plan to Shiding Thousand Island Lake Taiwan. It was raining heavily that day, luckily we are still able to admire the serene landscape in Taipei.
Shiding Thousand Island Lake 石碇千島湖
Due to the wet weather, there wasn’t much visitor on that day so it wasn’t crowded. Visiting Thousand Island lake on a rainy day was an unique experience. We get to admire this postcard view with misty sea clouds surrounding the tiny islands.
Thankfully, the weather wasn’t too misty to see anything. Awestruck by the extraordinary sight of Thousand Island lake Taipei and Ba Gua tea plantation, it’s definitely the most ideal itinerary for a Taipei half day tour exploring Shiding district.

Here is a catchment area of Feitsui Reservior 翡翠水庫 and Beishi river which is also the largest volume concrete dam in Taiwan. It has pure quality of water in cerulean blue water.
Loving the natural turquoise colour of the lake, it looks so surreal. I believe Shiding thousand island lake Taiwan will look even more amazing during good weather. There are several viewing decks available to appreciate Shiding Thousand Island lake from different perspectives.

The New Taipei City Tourism has inherited tea culture allowing both locals and tourist the opportunity to learn about Taiwan tea culture. The climate at Shiding district makes it ideal for tea growing.
Visiting picturesque terraced tea plantation is now possible in Taipei too, you don’t have to travel all the way to Nantou or Alishan. Ba Gua tea garden 八卦茶園 is just a stone away from the viewing deck of Shiding thousand island lake.
Found out something interesting while having a little chat with the tea plantation worker. At Pinglin tea planation, They do tea harvesting twice in a year. Now, they use a machine to help them to harvest the tea faster. Tea harvesting will only be done on good weather to ensure the good quality of the tea.
