At Pulau Mataking Kecil, you can explore this little tropical island and snorkel there! If swimming freely with schools of fish is your thing, it’s advisable to bring along your snorkeling equipment and life jacket for an unforgettable serene experience.
What an incredibly beautiful sight at Mataking Kecil that makes your jaw drop! I was totally immersed with the untouched beauty and the crystal clear water.
How I wish I could plunge into the sea now. It was a pity that we didn’t bring our snorkeling gears along. Otherwise, we could have a fun-filling afternoon, dipping in the sea.

If you are a scuba diving enthusiast, you must arrange a dive trip to Sipadan island which was voted as the world’s Top 10 best dive site in 2013. Sipadan is the only oceanic island in Malaysia, formed by a prehistoric volcano rising 600m from the ocean floor so it is surrounded by deep seas and wall reefs. It is easy to imagine how fascinating the underwater world would be, with its beautiful coral reefs and vibrant marine life.
To secure a dive at Sipadan island is challenging because the Sabah park only issues 176 Sipadan permits daily. Therefore, it is advisable to pre-register a Sipadan permit early with the resort you are staying at to avoid any disappointment.
The tighter restrictions for Sipadan diving permits is an initiative to preserve its rich marine life. Therefore, we could still swim with the massive swirling schools of chevron barracuda, spot huge Bumphead Parrotfish, hawksbill, green turtles, whalesharks & many more.
If I have a chance to go to Semporna again, I would definitely sign myself up for a scuba diving class to dive at Sipadan island to experience the enchanting marine underwater world.
