Where to stay in Kyoto: Hotel Keihan Kyoto Hachijoguchi near Kyoto station

Kyoto is one of the popular destination where most travelers will choose to visit when traveling to Japan. Kyoto is known for its traditional Japanese culture and its also strategically located right beside to Osaka and Nara city. It has attracted many tourists to experience feeding the wild roaming deer at Nara park. Choosing the right hotel to stay is always the most difficult decision to make. Therefore, where to stay in Kyoto?

Have you heard a rumor of Japan hotel before? Japan hotels are really expensive and small. In japan, most of the hotel in the prime location are expensive. As they are convenient and near the train station so its easier for you to travel around in Japan.

For free and easy travelers, I would recommend you to find an accommodation that is near the train station. It is a hassle to drag your luggage around and it would save lots of traveling time for you to explore Kyoto off-beaten attractions such as The Venice of Japan in Kyoto, Ine town.

After much research, I found this newly opened hotel in Kyoto, Hotel Keihan Kyoto Hachijoguchi. It was opened on December 2018 and it’s just 7 minutes walk from Kyoto station.

I was really amazed how high tech is this hotel! Hotel Keihan Kyoto Hachijoguchi only allow guest to self check by using the kiosk. Even though it’s really high tech but it’s troublesome when you have to check in many rooms at once.

This is my first time seeing an amenity bar at a hotel lobby. They allowed guests to take some basic necessities such as facial lotion, men facial care, instant coffee & etc to their room. It is a thoughtful gesture by Hotel Keihan Kyoto Hachijoguchi.

Where to stay in Kyoto: Hotel Keihan Kyoto Hachijoguchi standard triple room

Standard Triple room

We have booked a standard triple room with 3 bed. The room is quite spacious so there is enough space for us to unpack our luggage. That could be a very important considering factor where to stay in kyoto if hotel space constraint is one of your concern. From my personal staying experience, Tokyo hotels seems to be narrower than Kyoto hotels.

If you are looking for a more Japanese type of accommodation, you can consider to stay in a Kyoto Machiya airbnb that provide the closest staying experience to a traditional Ryokan.

After staying a few hotel during my Japan trip,  it seems that most of the Japanese hotels will have bathtub. Is this related to Japanese onsen culture so they tend to use bathtub more?

Where to stay in Kyoto: Kyoto accommodation

It cost approximately SGD$163 per night to stay at Hotel Keihan Kyoto Hachijoguchi. It is quite affordable as their room are quite spacious and the room amenities are well maintained. Their shower area and toilet area are also separated like most of the Japanese hotel. With this price, we get to enjoy the bathtub, it’s a steal!

Public bath is really a saviour during winter season because it was so cold during winter season! Soaking in the hot water, definitely keep us warm.

There are 2 large public bath pool, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor pool. It wasn’t too crowded but you can choose non peak hour to enjoy the public bath with lesser crowd.

If you are a breakfast person, I would recommend you to add on the hotel’s breakfast. In Japan, there aren’t much breakfast shop so it’s a good choice to fix your breakfast at the hotel before starting your day. The range of their breakfast choices are a lot and there are plenty of authentic Japanese food for us to try so it was kind of interesting.
