Amanohashidate, Kyoto by the Sea: Explore Kyoto Hidden Attractions

Escaping from the Kyoto city to discover the unexplored northern part of Kyoto. Rarely do people hear about Kyoto by the sea which is one of the highlights of Northern Kyoto. Amanohashidate is one of the Kyoto by the sea attractions & Japan’s top three scenic views!

Things to do in Kyoto

For my entire Kyoto trip, I have planned a 3D2N in Kyoto. With plenty of things to do in Kyoto, I decided to spend 2 days in Kyoto city & 1 day at Kyoto outskirt. For more Kyoto city’s travel inspirations, read my useful Kyoto Arashiyama one day itinerary.

To the northern Kyoto Prefecture,  it takes approximately 2 hours plus by car to reach.  There are a few attractions to visit at Kyoto by the Sea. Therefore, it is ideal for a day trip to Kyoto by the sea or a 3D2N trip to experience slower travel at Kyoto outskirts.

Along the way to the Northern Kyoto, beautiful lush misty mountains are seen due to the cold weather in spring.

These are the beautiful sight that is rarely seen in Kyoto city. Even though Kyoto outskirt is a little far, the scenery at Kyoto by the sea makes everything worthwhile for you to travel there.

How to get to northern Kyoto, Kyoto by the sea?

To Northern Kyoto, I would recommend hiring a private driver if you are traveling with a group of people. It will be more cost-savvy & less hassle. However, if you wish to embark on slow travel & experience more localize, you can take a train too.

You can choose to hop onto either the chair lift or monorail, whichever you are more comfortable with. The duration for both transportations takes around 5 – 6 minutes. Do take note that a 20 minutes interval waiting time is required for the monorail.

✦Travelereve Kyoto travel pro tip: Taking the chair lift is definitely more exciting &  getting barrier-free to unwind in nature’s embrace as it lifts you up to view the stunning Amanohashidate.

Deciding on escaping to the outskirt of Kyoto is the best decision made during my Kyoto trip. Away from the bustling city and crowd, quality sightseeing of the hidden gems in Kyoto is maximized.

With the perfect backdrop of Amanohashidate, a sandbar formed by approximately 8,000 pine trees which are 3.6km long between Miyazu Bay & Aso Sea.

✦Travelereve Kyoto travel pro tip: Remember to opt for the chairlift as you head down.  Treasuring the last breathtaking moment viewing this art piece

As Northern Kyoto still remains unexplored, it is much more peaceful to visit as compared to Kyoto city. It was an unforgettable Kyoto trip visiting the off-beaten Kyoto attractions that are popular among the locals. Highly recommend making a trip to northern Kyoto &  be awed by the extraordinary sight of Kyoto.
